Description:
Lower right hand garrett window pane in the attic has the image of what is believed to be the face of Henry Wells, a man black man doomed to be hanged in 1878 by a lynch mob. During the attempt to lynch him a severe thunderstorm hit the town. Lightening struck the roof killing Wells. The flash of brilliant light is believed to have etched his defiant expression into the window pane.

Even today whenever a storm rolls into Carollton the face of Henry Wells becomes more predominant in the window glaring down upon the streets of the town.

Scrubbing with solvents has failed to remove the etching. During the race riots in the 1960's it was feared that someone would destroy the pane but it alone was untouched when other places were vandalized and destroyed.
