There is a statue often misintrepreted as the Virgin Mary that is reported to cry at midnight every night. She has been refered to as Crying Mary for over 50 years. In turn, the statue is actually of a Greek woman (goddess?).

Go to downtown Battle Creek and head south down Main Street, turn right on High Street and there you are.
Most of Battle Creek's pioneers are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, including James and Ellen White, co-founders of the Seventh Day Adventist church, Sojourner Truth, Abolitionist and Equal Rights Campaigner. Also, W.K. Kellogg and his brother John Harvey Kellogg, C.W. Post, and Bill Knapp. Tourists world-wide visit these historic grave sites each year. Gates open 8am-dusk daily. The office is open 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. Admission free. |
