The house was once the home of the famous pirate Jean Laffite. Hhowever it is the ghost of Captain Flint who haunts the restaurant and grounds. It is believed that he was the pirate who actually buried the treasure written about in Treasure Island. The words he spoke to his first mate, Darby McGraw are heard by guests. In a broken and painful voice, Flint orders his first mate to bring him more rum.
Captain Flint has been seen in the tunnels that run beneath the property to the ocean. These tunnels were discovered during some recent renovations. These tunnels have been used by the pirates to escape back to the sea when things on land became too difficult for them. Also, it is believed to have been used as a "recruiting" tool for the ships during the 1700 & 1800's. Many men entered the establishment only to find themselves on a ship bound for a distant land. One story has a cop who came into the restaurant for a drink. He awoke hours later as a crewman on a ship sailing across the ocean. It took him two years to make it back to Savannah, Georgia. |
